Fairy Meadows Pakistan 2026 — The Most Beautiful Place in Pakistan
Fairy Meadows is the most photographed landscape in Pakistan — a green plateau at 3,300 meters altitude, with a direct view of Nanga Parbat (the ninth highest mountain in the world at 8,126 meters). The meadow got its name from German climbers who called it "Marchenwiese" (Fairy Tale Meadow) because of its otherworldly beauty. If you visit one place in northern Pakistan, make it Fairy Meadows. How to Reach Fairy Meadows
Fairy Meadows is in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan. The journey takes 2-3 days from Islamabad:
- Islamabad to Chilas: 12-14 hours by car on the Karakoram Highway (KKH). Alternatively, fly to Gilgit (1 hour) and drive 3 hours to Chilas.
- Chilas to Raikot Bridge: 1.5 hours on the KKH. This is where you register and pay the entry fee.
- Raikot Bridge to Tato Village: 1.5 hours by local jeep on one of the most dangerous (and spectacular) jeep roads in the world. The road has no guardrails and drops thousands of feet. Not for the faint-hearted.
- Tato Village to Fairy Meadows: 3-4 hours hiking (or 1.5 hours on horseback). The trail is steep but well-marked. Altitude gain: 600 meters.
Best Time to Visit
- May to October: The road is open and weather is clear. Best months: June and September.
- July-August: Peak season. Crowded. Book accommodation in advance.
- November to April: Road closed due to snow. Do not attempt.

What to Do at Fairy Meadows
- Photography: The view of Nanga Parbat from the meadow is one of the most iconic mountain views on earth. Sunrise and sunset are magical.
- Day hike to Nanga Parbat Base Camp (Beyal Camp): 3-4 hours one way. Challenging but the view of the Rupal face of Nanga Parbat is worth it.
- Overnight at the meadow: Stay in one of the wooden huts. Stargazing is spectacular — no light pollution, clear mountain air.
- Jeep road experience: The Raikot-Tato jeep road itself is an adventure. Some travelers say the road is more memorable than the meadow.
