ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 RAM Upgrade Guide — From 16GB to 32GB to 64GB in Pakistan

    Editorial

The ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 ships with 16GB RAM and one slot completely free. This guide covers everything about RAM upgrades — why, when, how, and what it costs in Pakistan. At 175,000 PKR with room to grow. Message us on WhatsApp to get the machine.

    Why Upgrade RAM?

RAM determines how many applications and how much data your laptop can handle simultaneously. 16GB is adequate for most professional work — Photoshop, Premiere Pro, CAD, web development. But if you work with large files — 4K video timelines, massive 3D scenes, multiple virtual machines, heavy multitasking — 32GB or 64GB makes a significant difference. The ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 makes upgrading easy because one RAM slot is already free.

How to Upgrade — Step by Step

Step 1: Buy a compatible DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM stick (2666MHz or faster). Step 2: Turn off the laptop and unplug the charger. Step 3: Remove the screws on the bottom panel. Step 4: Remove the bottom panel. Step 5: Locate the empty SO-DIMM slot. Step 6: Insert the new RAM stick at a 30-degree angle, then press down until it clicks. Step 7: Replace the bottom panel and screws. Step 8: Turn on the laptop. The system automatically detects the new RAM. No software configuration needed.

    16GB to 32GB — Add One Stick

The easiest upgrade. Buy a 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM stick and insert it into the free slot. You now have 32GB total. The system runs in dual-channel mode, which improves memory bandwidth and overall performance. This upgrade takes 5 minutes and a Phillips screwdriver.

    32GB to 64GB — Replace Both Sticks

If you need 64GB, remove the existing 16GB stick and replace both with 32GB sticks. The motherboard supports up to 64GB total. This is the maximum RAM configuration.

    ECC vs Non-ECC RAM

The Xeon processor supports ECC (Error-Correcting Code) memory. The current 16GB stick is Non-ECC. You can upgrade to ECC modules if data integrity is critical for your work. Do not mix ECC and Non-ECC in the same system — replace both sticks if switching to ECC.

    What RAM Costs in Pakistan

16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM stick in Pakistan: approximately 8,000-12,000 PKR depending on brand and speed. 32GB DDR4 SO-DIMM stick: approximately 18,000-25,000 PKR. The upgrade is affordable and dramatically extends the useful life of the machine.

    Standing with Palestine

At Kimi Travels, we believe travel should build bridges between people — never erase their histories or silence their struggles. We stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and proudly serve Palestinian students, patients, and families travelling through Pakistan and the wider region. A portion of every booking we process is donated to verified humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza and the West Bank. Justice anywhere is justice everywhere.
