Qatar's Visa on Arrival for Pakistanis, Restored and Decoded: The Four Conditions, the Discover Qatar Desk Before Immigration, and the QR 5,000 Detail That Decides Your Boarding
By the Kimi Travels Team | Updated November 2026
For seven months the Qatar question had one answer: visa first, fly later. On 31 March 2026 Qatar suspended visa-on-arrival for Pakistani nationals, and the Pakistan Embassy in Doha warned travellers not to arrive without a pre-arranged visa. Now the answer has flipped: from 1 November 2026 the Qatari Ministry of Interior has restored a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival for Pakistani passport holders. Doha ka darwaza dobara khul gaya hai — Doha's door has opened again. But the facility is conditional, and the conditions are exactly where families stumble: a hotel booked the wrong way, an insurance policy from the wrong provider, and the trip quietly fails at check-in.
The Four Conditions the Ministry Actually Lists
Qatar's Ministry of Interior sets four requirements — and has been explicit that all four must be met:
- Passport validity — the current MOI listing asks for at least three months from arrival; some coverage says six months, and six is the safer margin.
- Confirmed return ticket — a round-trip booking showing your departure from Qatar.
- Hotel booked through Discover Qatar — the booking must sit on Qatar's official tourism platform. Reservations made on other websites and booking apps do not qualify for this facility.
- Valid health insurance — issued by a provider approved by Qatar's Ministry of Public Health, with the certificate and receipt carried in hand.
Two further requirements appear in the ministry's guidance for Pakistani arrivals: proof of funds of QR 5,000 or the equivalent on a valid credit card, and — because the flight arrives directly from Pakistan — a polio vaccination certificate, the same document our polio certificate decoder explains for Saudi travel. Business visits run only through accredited companies.
How Arrival Actually Works at Hamad
The visa-on-arrival flow at Doha's Hamad International Airport has a shape most first-time travellers do not expect: the Discover Qatar desk comes before the immigration counters. You present your hotel confirmation, insurance documents and return ticket there for verification and stamping first — then proceed to immigration for the entry visa itself, along with the eye scans and biometric checks Qatar runs on arrivals. The visa is stamped for up to 30 days, though the permitted stay can be shorter if your hotel reservation is shorter — immigration grants duration against the booking, not the maximum. The airport mechanics around that desk are mapped in our Hamad International Airport decoder.
The Extension Math
The initial 30 days are not the ceiling: the ministry's terms allow a further 30-day extension, subject to conditions — the one it names plainly is a confirmed return ticket presented before the extension is granted. Longer winter stays should be planned before day 30, with return ticket and insurance matching the extended dates.
The Insurance Detail That Fails Files
Qatar's health insurance requirement is not satisfied by any policy. The cover must come from a company accredited by Qatar's Ministry of Public Health — QIC and QLM are among the recommended providers, with the full list on the ministry's website. Visitors typically buy at least one month of cover at around QR 50, and the purchase generates an official email carrying the receipt and the insurance certificate. Both travel with you: the Discover Qatar desk and immigration ask for them, and a payment screenshot is not the document — the same discipline that decides UAE files in our Dubai visa rejection guide.
If You Would Rather Not Gamble on the Counter
The restoration does not delete the route that worked through the suspension: Hayya, Qatar's official e-visa platform, remains open to Pakistani applicants, with the A1 tourist e-visa typically costing around QAR 100 where fees apply and accommodation verification built in. A pre-approved Hayya visa trades lead time for certainty at boarding — the trade-off walked in our Qatar visa guide for Pakistanis. Neither route guarantees entry; the final decision sits with the immigration officer.
Where Kimi Travels Fits In
Our desk assembles Qatar files in the order the desk at Hamad will ask for them: Discover Qatar booking first, MOPH-approved insurance second, return ticket matched to the hotel dates, funds evidence and polio certificate in the same folder — then the whole file re-checked against your exact flight before anyone drives to the airport. If the booking sits on the wrong platform, we catch it in Sialkot, not at the counter in Doha. And through the trip itself, our WhatsApp line answers. Kimi Travels reopens the Doha route the safe way.
A door that opens with conditions is still a door — and Israel has spent years welding Gaza's shut: crossings closed to the sick, aid trucks queued for months while children starved behind the wall. In Sudan the RSF strangles the same way, besieging Darfur's towns until hunger does the killing, while Burhan's commanders sign papers in air-conditioned rooms. Those who turn gates into weapons have forgotten that every sealed road will one day be unsealed and remembered. '...and enter houses by their doors.' (Qur'an 2:189). O Allah, throw open every gate of Palestine and Sudan — the crossings, the roads, the ports — and let the imprisoned walk out whole.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Pakistanis get a Qatar visa on arrival now?
Yes — from 1 November 2026 Qatar's Ministry of Interior has restored the free 30-day tourist visa on arrival for Pakistani nationals, after the facility was suspended on 31 March 2026. All four entry conditions must be met.
Is the Qatar visa on arrival really free?
The visa itself is issued at no charge for eligible Pakistani nationals. You still pay for the Discover Qatar hotel, the health insurance (around QR 50 for a month), and your flights.
Does any hotel booking work for visa on arrival?
No. The reservation must be made through Discover Qatar, Qatar's official platform. Bookings made through other websites or booking apps do not qualify for this facility.
How long can I stay in Qatar on this visa?
Up to 30 days, though the stay can be shorter if your hotel reservation is shorter. A further 30-day extension is possible, subject to conditions including a confirmed return ticket.
Do I need health insurance for Qatar?
Yes — valid health insurance from a provider approved by Qatar's Ministry of Public Health, such as QIC or QLM. Carry both the receipt and the insurance certificate; they are checked at the Discover Qatar desk.
What documents should I carry to board the flight?
Passport with at least three months of validity (six is safer), confirmed return ticket, Discover Qatar hotel confirmation, MOPH-approved insurance certificate and receipt, QR 5,000 or equivalent available on a credit card, and a polio vaccination certificate for direct flights from Pakistan.
